A gunfight with no bodies, a missing wheelie bin, abandoned groceries, can they possibly all be connected? Is Elodea suffering from over active imagination and if not Did Anyone Die? Some are born detectives, some become detectives and some have detectiveship thrust upon them. In this last category are Priscilla, dedicated classicist and Oxford academic, and Barnabus, her un-nephew, who are left to solve the mystery and to discover that dog sitting can be dangerous.
This novel is set in the City of Dreaming Spires and the imaginary village of Little Wychwell, situated deep in darkest Oxfordshire.

Elodea was walking her dog when she heard voices; shouting then gunfire. But after first running away from the vicinity, clutching her dog in her arms, then feeling guilty and returning, she was astounded when there was no evidence of what she’d heard. Elodea was slightly bemused as she once again returned home – when her friend Priscilla arrived that evening after a frantic call from her, she convinced her she’d imagined it all, and departed for her daughter’s, leaving Priscilla to look after Elodea’s dog.And so began Priscilla’s quest to discover what in fact her friend Elodea had witnessed – if indeed she had. But she was annoyed at her friend, and reluctant to become involved. Was Little Wychwell in Oxfordshire about to become a place of danger for Priscilla?
Did Anyone Die? is a fun cosy mystery set in the countryside of England by Stella Stafford and is first in the Little Wychwell Mysteries. A reasonable plot, the book would have been greatly improved by some editing to tighten things and remove the many errors. Recommended if you enjoy light, cosy mysteries…

Did Anyone Die? Little Wychwell Mysteries Book 1 eBook Stella Stafford Reviews
very pleasent and a good mistery,a lot of decriptions of english life in a village and subtle humor. recommended for a quiet evening, sofa and warm chocolate
Such a relaxing read. A tickle of a tale with all one's favorite English countryside staples the butler, the Lady of the manor, the self immersed professor, the loyal minion, the excessively charming and disarming (and over confident) tyro of an Englishman. Such a lot of fun.
The narrator constantly changed from one character to the other. There was no apparent reason, explanation or warning of this change. The book contained more filler than mystery or action.
If you loved the Inspector Morse series and found the quirky villagers of Midsomer Murders irresistible, this series is a must.
"Elodea had a fanatically gardening mother and was named - like both her sisters - from the Latin names in the back of a book of garden plants."
Are Elodea and her Oxford friend Priscilla scatterbrained fruitcakes, or do people really shoot each other at night in the quiet village of Little Wychwood? Sorry, but you will have to read the story to find out.
All I'll tell you is that I dashed through the lovely story in a few hours. And why not admit it; I am still chuckling.
Did Anyone Die was actually a pleasant surprise. I am one of those people who first looks at the cover and I really didn't particularly like that. Wrong, I know, but there you go. However, I did read the synopsis and I liked what I saw there, so I decided to get the book anyway, and as I said it, was a pleasant surprise. Middle-aged Oxford professor gets herself in the middle of a murder mystery. Not high literature, but a very pleasant read for an afternoon on the beach. If you like the Agatha Raisin series by M.C. Beaton, you will enjoy this as well. I will definitely be reading the next one in this series. The plot was a bit predictable and that's why I give it three stars instead of four.
This book is definitely different from most mysteries I read. The town was full of strange people and I couldn't understand how Priscilla let herself be dragged into these situations. She seems to be a strong person, but then she lets people take advantage of her. I also do not understand her marriage. What is the point of being married in this type of relationship?
I loved the nephew. He certainly knows how to get what he wants. He knows flattery works every time.
The ending was a little strange. Definitely not what I expected. I suppose because it is leading into the next book in the series.
I have not read many British mysteries, so, for me, the language is a bit confusing.
Overall it was an interesting mystery. Some details could have been left out--things which had nothing whatsoever to do with the mystery. I feel they were just to add length to the story.
This is another Facebook find for me. Did Anyone Die? is a charming little read. With a clever mystery and quaint characters, this Little Wychwell Mystery is a fun book that takes the reader into a fictional village that has more than its fair share of drama.
This time around, there may, or may not have been a murder. There may, or may not be one too many secrets in the village, and Priscilla may or may not survive when she is bamboozled into caring for her dear friend, Elodea's perky little pup. That one little favor drops Priscilla into the middle of a mystery that could cost her life, not to mention her sanity.
I enjoyed this story very much, but I will admit that I was more bothered than usual by the number of mistakes in the book. I think this author could build a tremendous following of devoted readers if she took the time to put a little more work into the book, so it matches up with the quality of the story.
If you enjoy a quaint story, you should definitely give this a try.
